Basketball isn’t just about individual stats. Sometimes the numbers hide a bigger story—one that tells us more than averages ever could.
In this chart, we went beyond just showing the top players’ efficiency at EuroBasket 2025. We also measured what percentage of their team’s total efficiency each player contributes.
In other words: how much does each star really carry their team?
The goal: to see which teams lean heavily on one player and which succeed through collective effort.
🔎 What we found
🏀 Star-dependent teams
Some squads rely on one player for most of their output. If that star has an off night, the team struggles. These teams live—and die—by their main player.
🏀 Balanced teams
Other squads spread the load across multiple players. They don’t depend on one star shining; they thrive on teamwork. These are the squads where anyone can step up.
📝 Why it matters
This gives us a fresh way to look at the tournament.
It shows not just who’s the most efficient, but how success is built.
It raises the question: is it better to have a Luka Dončić carrying the team almost alone, or to share the load so no one player is overworked?
In a short tournament like EuroBasket, these differences can be decisive. A star-heavy team can dominate… but it can also stumble if their key player struggles. A more balanced team may have fewer highs—but also fewer lows.
💬 Food for thought
Which would you choose: a team that rides its superstar or one that spreads the responsibility? Which approach works better in a tournament like this?
